Who operates Astra for Law, how it relates to OpenAI, where its name comes from, and the limits you accept when you use it. The Terms of Use govern the service; this notice forms part of them.

Astra for Law — this website and the workspace behind it — is an independent product operated by JDM Legal Tech. JDM Legal Tech is not a law firm, does not practice law and does not provide legal advice.

Independence from OpenAI
Astra for Law is not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by or a partner of OpenAI. It is built on OpenAI models, which it reaches through the OpenAI API as an API customer, under OpenAI's published terms and usage policies.
OpenAI offers its own legal configuration of its models under the name Astra for Law. This website and workspace are not that offering, are not provided or operated by OpenAI, and do not currently use it. As of the effective date of this notice the workspace uses OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Luna model. If an OpenAI model offered for legal work is ever connected, it will be through OpenAI's API on the terms OpenAI publishes, and this notice will say so.
No OpenAI logo or other OpenAI brand element forms part of the Astra for Law name or emblem. Nothing on this site describes a relationship with OpenAI beyond the use of its API.
The name
In Latin, astra means “the stars” — the plural of astrum, as in the motto per aspera ad astra. The A-and-galaxy emblem that goes with the name is an original design of JDM Legal Tech and draws on that meaning.
JDM Legal Tech does not claim that its use of the name gives it any right over another company's product names, and it does not use the name to suggest that its product is anyone else's.
Trademarks
OpenAI, ChatGPT, GPT and the OpenAI logos are trademarks of OpenAI. Microsoft, Word, Azure and Microsoft 365 are trademarks of Microsoft. Google and Apple are trademarks of their respective owners. Other names that appear on this site belong to their owners. They are used only to identify those companies' products and services, and their mention implies no affiliation, sponsorship or endorsement.
If you believe anything on this site uses your name or mark improperly, write to jdm.juridico@gmail.com. Notices are read promptly, and material found to be improper will be changed or removed.
Not legal advice
Nothing the service produces is legal advice, and using it creates no attorney-client relationship with JDM Legal Tech. The service supports legal professionals who exercise their own judgment. If you are not a lawyer, do not rely on its output in place of advice from a qualified attorney in your jurisdiction.
Generated output
The workspace uses a large language model. Its output can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, and it can cite cases, statutes, quotations or holdings that do not exist or do not say what the output claims.
A source marker shows which retrieved record a sentence is linked to. It does not establish that the sentence is correct, current or controlling. Public-source search covers limited GovInfo and Federal Register records, with Wex links as a labeled secondary reference; it is not a commercial legal research database, a citator or a negative-treatment check.
Verify every authority, quotation, fact and deadline against primary sources before you rely on it, file it or send it to a client.
Your professional obligations
You remain responsible for the rules of professional conduct that apply to you when you use AI tools, including competence, confidentiality, supervision, communication with clients and candor toward the tribunal. See, for example, ABA Formal Opinion 512 (2024) on generative artificial intelligence tools, and the rules and standing orders of the courts before which you appear.
Confidential information
During the private beta, do not upload privileged or confidential client information. Retention controls, verified deletion, audit logs and an independent security review are not yet in place.
Requests you send are processed by OpenAI through its API. A PDF whose text cannot be read natively may be sent to Microsoft Azure for text recognition. The Privacy Policy lists every provider that handles workspace content.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, AND JDM LEGAL TECH IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS, SANCTION, MALPRACTICE CLAIM OR OTHER CONSEQUENCE OF RELYING ON OUTPUT THAT YOU DID NOT INDEPENDENTLY VERIFY.

Third-party services
The service depends on providers that operate under their own terms: OpenAI for model inference, Microsoft Azure for text recognition, Supabase for authentication, database and file storage, Vercel for hosting, and Google and Apple for sign-in if you choose them. JDM Legal Tech does not control those services and does not warrant their performance.
Changes to this notice
This notice will change as the product does. The effective date at the top identifies the current version.
